Orientation of Coorg: Plan your trip to Coorg according to your interest and liking.

Coorg/Kodagu is a big district and not one particular place as is thought by many people planning trip to Coorg. The various places to see in Coorg are scattered all throughout the district from north to south and east to west.

Madikeri the headquaters of Kodagu(ಕೊದಗು) is the most accessible part of Coorg for most tourists entering Coorg from several directions like from Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore. Many of the major tourist attractions of Coorg are near Madikeri.

Coorg is a large district and people visiting the place should keep in mind the directions so as to book their accomadation accordingly for better time management and avoid unnecessary wastage of travel time within Coorg.

Coorg is a destination for several activities and people visiting the place plan their trips according to their likes and interests. If one is visiting coorg for trekking and other adventurous activities they should go towards the West Coorg which consists of the Western Ghat mountain ranges. Thadiyandamol is the highest peak on these Western Ghats. This part of Coorg is usually preferred by those who visit Coorg for trekking and other adventure sports & activities. The main town on this hill side is Virajpet.

If one is interested in seeing the Wildlife of Coorg they should visit the southeastern part. The most famous Nagarhole Wildlife sanctury is located in this part. There are also other places like Dubare elephant camp, Valnoor Fishing camp and Murkal elephant camp in this part of Coorg. There are many good resorts, guest houses and safari points here. The wildlife oriented tourist should stay in this region so as to enjoy the wildlife of Coorg to the fullest. This part of Coorg joins Kerala on the south. On the Kerala border is another interesting Wildlife destination Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.

However, if one is going to Coorg for relaxing, for their honeymoon in Coorg or simply to enjoy the natural beauty of Coorg they can opt for places like Madikeri and other northern parts or plains of Coorg where they can find really good homestays and can enjoy visiting the coffee/tea estates, the traditional culture and food of Coorg and can also visit some major tourist places along with shopping some traditional Coorg stuff like Coorg coffee, Coorg honey, Coorg spices etc.
